In this edition of Red Threads, Translacija | Traslación focuses on histories of performance art and the performative at and around Circulacija 2, and their meaning in the historical context of the activities of that multidisciplinary association of artists. The red threads in question are exemplified by the quest for a possible (or imaginary) “first performance” at Cirkulacija 2 and how the group’s founders build stories about it, in dialogue with an artwork from Ksenija Čerče which documents a collective action carried by Cirkulacija 2 in Alkatraz gallery (Ljubljana) in 2010.

The audiovisual installation displays fragments of much longer interviews made to four of the five founding members of Cirkulacija 2 (Ksenija Čerče, Stefan Doepner, Majda Gregorič, Borut Savski), centered on the moment in which each of them answered to the question »What was the first performance made at Cirkulacija 2?«. The intent of carrying out an interview with the fifth of the founding members,  Boštjan Leskovšek, is referred to in the working notes taken by Tomsich and Kocmur and included in the exhibition, as well as in the short video-poem »Blackout« (Francisco Tomsich, 2023). A series of documents and images from different sources are summoned in order to point out to some of the future potential developments and new red threads arising from this research process.

Red Threads #Cirkulacija 2 is the third edition of the research project Red Threads, initiated in 2018 by Translación | Traslación - a platform for the production, exhibition and research of performance art created by artists Tatiana Kocmur and Francisco Tomsich. Red Threads is a model of artistic research in performance art focused on reception of performance art works by people who were present in the place and time in which a particular work was made.
